Privacy policy
This policy explains how Epic Trail handles personal data, in the game for iOS and Android and on this website. The short version: no account, no ads, no tracking across apps, and nothing that tells us who you are.
1. Who is responsible
Epic Trail is made by Vincent Germain, the data controller for the data described here. You can reach us at contact@epictrail.app.
2. What we collect
A. Your game, on your device
Your progress (coins, gear, levels, bests and feats) and your settings are saved on your device only. There is no account and no game server, and none of it is sent to us.
B. Gameplay analytics
To understand how the game is played and make it better, the released game sends a small set of events to Mixpanel, our analytics provider, on its EU servers:
- Gameplay facts: the level, the distance run and how the run ended, choices made at rest stops, feats earned, the look you picked, and what you buy with in-game coins (game coins only, never real money).
- Interface actions: for example opening the Hero sheet, turning sound on or off, resetting progress, or copying our contact address (the action only, never an address).
- A random installation ID that links these events together. It is made of random numbers on your device. It is not your name, email, Apple or Google account, advertising ID or a hardware ID.
We turn off Mixpanel’s location lookup: no city, region or country is recorded, and the game never uses GPS. Like any internet connection, your network address is visible to the service receiving the data. Events are held in memory and sent when possible; if you’re offline, they may simply be lost.
C. Crash reports
When the released game crashes or hits an error, it may send a report to Sentry so we can fix it: the error, the state of the game when it happened, the game version and technical details such as your device’s operating system.
D. The full game
The first level is free; the full game is unlocked with an in-app purchase through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment under their own terms. We never see your payment details; the game only learns whether the full game is unlocked on your device.
E. Emails
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply.
What we don’t collect
Your name, email (unless you write to us), phone number, contacts, photos, microphone, location, health or fitness data, payment details, or anything you type. There are no ads in the game.
3. How we use it
- To run the game and keep your progress on your device.
- To see how the game is played and improve its levels, balance and interface.
- To find and fix crashes and errors.
- To unlock the full game when you buy it.
- To answer your messages.
4. Legal bases
Where the law requires one (such as the GDPR in Europe), we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the game and keeping it stable (analytics and crash reports), on performing our agreement with you (the game and its full-game unlock), and on your request when you write to us.
5. Sharing
We don’t sell your data, use it for advertising, or combine it with data from other companies. We share only what is described above, with the services that process it for us: Mixpanel (analytics), Sentry (crash reports), Apple and Google (purchases), and Cloudflare (hosting this website), each under its own privacy terms.
6. International transfers
These services may process data outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep it
- On your device: until you reset your progress or remove the game.
- Gameplay analytics: Mixpanel deletes events automatically two years after they happen. The small profile linked to your installation ID (the look you picked and whether the full game is unlocked) is kept while we use Mixpanel, unless you ask us to delete it.
- Crash reports: only as long as they are useful to fix problems, then deleted.
- Emails: as long as needed to help you.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to or restrict how it’s used, and to receive a copy of it. To ask, write to contact@epictrail.app. As the game knows only a random installation ID, we may ask you for it to find your data.
In the game, Reset progress (About & Feedback at camp) erases your progress and replaces the installation ID, so new events are no longer linked to the old ones. Removing the game erases everything kept on your device.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the data we handle, and send it over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, though, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
Epic Trail is a game for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from them; if you believe a child has written to us, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. This website
This site has no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. The stamp book remembers your stamps in your browser’s local storage, and they never leave your device. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles the requests your browser makes to load it. Links to the App Store, Google Play or other sites follow those sites’ own policies.
12. Changes
If what the game or this site collects changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will say when.
13. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data: contact@epictrail.app.
